"Watch the defensive line!" "Hit him!" "Occupy the left scoring bridge!" On Friday afternoon, eight freshmen and sophomores from Nine Dragons Middle School gathered around the operating table, their eyes locked on the two VEX robots being tested.
This is the base camp of "Kowloon Flying VEX Robotics Team". This 20-member club has won the provincial and municipal VEX Robotics Challenge for five consecutive years. Not long ago, they won the first secondary school robotics league in China, the Nanjing "Shouchuang Cup" Metal Robotics Series Exchange and Display Activity.

Behind the champion is the creation of "complete autonomy". Every robot in the competition, from conceptual design, robot construction to code writing, is done by students under the guidance of coaches.
"The preparation process is more important than the result." Coach Yang said he witnessed countless births from sketches to physical objects. In order to optimize a grasping action, the students would repeatedly adjust the pressure value of the pneumatic device to make the robotic arm activity more stable; in order to improve the moving speed, they taught themselves the gear ratio and conducted hundreds of simulation tests on the computer.

Liu Zihan, the operator who is practicing the confrontation, focused on the remote control. Just see the robot gently around the obstacles, the mechanical arm steadily clamped the red ball, lifting, aiming, projecting, the ball accurately fell into the scoring area. "Insist on practicing for 20 minutes every day, the sense of touch all depends on accumulation." His tone is calm and steady, with a calmness beyond his age.
Last year, when preparing for the competition, their projection device repeatedly jammed, the whole team soaked in the laboratory for a whole week, and finally installed the gear linkage device independently, and added an adjustable baffle to control the direction of projection. After repeated testing and optimization, the ball projection speed increased significantly, and the overall scoring efficiency increased by about 30%.

Such deep engagement greatly hones the students' general skills. "It allows kids to integrate mathematical calculations, physical principles and program logic to solve real, complex problems." Pointing to a robot, Mr. Yang said that they designed a parallelogram mechanical arm that can keep the claw's direction unchanged when lifting or lowering it, and integrated color sensors and adaptive algorithms that allow the robot to automatically identify and sort task items, "This is not only about learning knowledge, but also about engineering thinking, project management and teamwork skills."
These robots, which are a combination of calculation and ingenuity, seem to have been given a primary "life" and animation in the hands of the teenagers.

"We hope to provide a soil for the children's creativity to grow on its own." Wang Jian, deputy secretary of the school's party branch and vice principal, said, "More than winning or losing, we care about whether they dare to design, have the courage to make trial and error, and see their own love and potential in creation."
In Kowloon High School, "laying the foundation for every student's happy growth" is not only a concept, but also a daily practice.
In order to support the students to "realize" their ideas, the school has purchased 3D printers, laser engraving machines and other equipment for the Creative Lab. Schools in science and technology education adhere to the earmarked, annual investment of not less than 70,000 yuan, and in the teaching and participation in the whole process of the implementation of the "zero fee" for students, so that science and technology education has really become a platform for the growth of all students within reach.

This kind of "happy" experience not only blossoms on the field of science and technology education, but also grows in the vegetable field full of vitality on the campus.
The school is the seventh batch of primary and middle school students' character enhancement and mental health education program schools in Jiangsu Province. Jiulong students watch over their hometowns and homelands, cultivate and study in the green hills, and labor to establish beauty. Learning in labor, creating in learning, and feeling in creating.
The students walked out of the science and technology training room full of metal and code atmosphere, nearly 400 square meters of labor practice base will come into view, green vegetables, radish, broccoli lush, spinach, lettuce, chrysanthemum leaves in a staggered manner, a full of vitality!
Schools for each class designated exclusive "responsibility field", students in the classroom teacher led by the design of personalized class nameplates, the use of labor class, large classroom into the field between the long, first-hand experience of sowing, watering, weeding, picking the whole process, so that the character cultivation and spiritual growth, in the cultivation of the droplets of the roots.
Here, students try soil-less cultivation techniques and experience the convenience of the solar-powered automatic irrigation system. When the vegetables are ripe, they will bring the fruits of their cultivation to the school gate and sell them to parents and teachers. Each "labor reward" is filled with a sense of achievement and pride.
"Our school is just under the Bawang Mountain, and many of the trees on the surrounding hills were planted by the teachers and children together. Every spring, the acacia flowers bloomed on the mountains, and the sweet fragrance of the flowers drifted into the campus with the wind, dipping everywhere in fragrance." Shen Xuesong, party branch secretary and principal of Jiulong Middle School, recalled with a smile.
In the flow of the four seasons, the children witnessed broccoli nodding in low temperatures and observed spinach growing rapidly in short days. These vivid experiences are more vivid than illustrations in textbooks, and they also root the knowledge of nature and life deeply in the heart.

From the intelligent robots manipulated by their fingertips to the warm soil under their feet, the teenagers of Nine Dragons Middle School are writing their own chapter of growth through innovation and labor.
